Psychic readings

Any thoughts personally the more I work on Mediumship the more bothered I become about the ethical issues that surround pure psychic readings, which neither have any proveable nor necessarily any real Spirit involvement (although the majority will probably include the "They are telling me" phrase implying that wisdom is being passed on from higher Spiritual beings like guides). How many people really understand that all a psychic is working on, to produce their readings, is your own energy i.e your knowledge, history, hopes , fears aspirations and dreams. Clearly a good psychic mirroring this back to you could be helpful but the potential for distortion through either poor reading of the information or bias from either the reader's, or your own "beliefs" is quite high.

Remember most of the readings sought are, nowadays, relationship or "fortune" type, the minority want comfort from proof of survival and few psychics could get close to doing this well. Even doing fund raising readings (the only ones I have done) in a Spiritualist setting the majority want who should I be with (often from pictures), will they leave their wife, should I leave him, when will I find love even why is this happening to me, type readings. In reality all questions more suited to counsellors but then they are often more expensive and require an internal understanding or acceptance that help is really needed. To prevent misunderstandings I always explain that it is my intent to bring proof of survival messages and give them the choice to seek a pure psychic reader.

Your posting arrived somewhat appropriately just as I am about to start writing a short piece attempting to separate 'psychic' from 'medium', mainly for other forums.

I've asked for the thoughts of members of SCR to make sure I'm not on my own with my ideas!

I think your comment about some people needing counselling rather than psychic guff is spot on. Dressing it up in supernatural sugar coating may help some people but it is simply misrepresentation.

Even if a person does have some ability, I am not sure that the vague predictions and waffle are of any value and may even be harmful if taken to heart by a vulnerable person (I think we are on the same page here).

A person I know often works on psychic phone lines and is convinced they have psychic abilities. Once or twice they have offered me messages which have been utter tripe. They may of course have some ability but I can't say I have seen even a hint of it. Having said that since I have consulted well-regarded mediums and received no evidence the problem may lie with me

I think we are exactly on the same page Obi. I do not think it is you at all just people who believe they are not what they really are.
