Pastor’s loss of faith started with loss of hell

Interesting story a man who lost his belief in God because he did not think a loving caring God would consign any Spirit to Hell.

Of course the atheist have a set up to help people to recover from religion and he is one of the first graduates.

Now one benefit that could happen, of we gave up religion would be no fundamenatalist religous wars. Would limit fights down to economics and politics..tehre would be enough of those anyway but we could not use a Jihad or a crusade as the reason to kill.

Of course as a Spiritualist who believes in survival after death and God I am not joining this.

If you look at those places where they take religion very seriously they seem to be real trouble spots. I served in Northern Ireland during the troubles and it was awful. Since interest in religion has declined things have settled down a lot over there.
Nigeria also, there's any amount of trouble and blood shed there over religious differences.
That said some folk just need an excuse to fall out so if it wasn't religion maybe it would be something else.
O'Hara's book that I mentioned elsewhere on here is interesting in that he looks at some Spiritualist attitudes to war when we were at war.

War is just an unfortunate aspect of the human beast. Religion, race, color, nationalism, class, ideology, ruling family. . . all just excuses and triggers for it, but not really the underlying cause.

He correctly identified, and rejected, a false assertion about God: then went downhill from there.

Dalai Lama was in London this week trousering a huge wad from Templeton Foundation which is largely funded and acts in part as a respectable face for neo con 'defence' industries. Fair play to him though, he's giving it all to good causes according to news reports.
