I like how he points out that fraud is present, wherever the human element comes in. I've always realized that there are fraudulent mediums. But then, there are frauds in every church, and in every profession. We should never throw out the baby with the bath water.

Eileen Garrett too among several others Mark Etta Wriedt, who would join in speaking in her direct voice sessions.

However, I think the 80's were very strong too when you could see decent mediums at most meetings. Hardly surprising that the 80's were the peak years for SNU membership.

Nostalgia aint what it used to be.
We had that TV turn in the late seventies early eighties and a bit of a personality cult. Most churches didn't get to see a big name special very often but there were more platform mediums all round. Doris Stokes TV appearances and her Voices paperbacks which were best sellers along with the Uri Geller 'craze' also boosted membership for a while but the decline set in soon after. My Dad spoke of a similar blip in numbers just after second world war.
With a few exception such as Eric Hattons of Gordon Higginsons churches where they were go ahead the situation in most local churches though was one of old fashioned practices and embedded frozen chosen committtees. Hence the folk who did come along for a while dropped away. I think today is better. There is so much more going on and folk feel free to follow Spirit as it leads them rather than following some stale old party line as was the case in those olden but not golden days.
