Of course there is another side to NDE's this is the one the Christians particularly love the NDE to hell.

I am not a fan of NDEs with no veridical content -hellish or otherwise.

I agree Obi. as we establish that our consciousness and life may persist a period when we are appear to be dead then our subconscious belief systems will impact on that space in which we exist until we return

Do folk who share similar views ever try to enlarge on and explain the biblical view that 'the kingdom of heaven is within'? It would surely follow that the notion of Hell is also within, would it not?

NDE's are intensely subjective and appear to be water tightly private. That does not mean they are not very real though.
The huge range of declared and very similar experiences at www.nderf.org/ point to a 'different' normality that is just beyond everyday ken.

There seem to be some NDEs which might be veridical. These, if they are what they are claimed to be, would indicate separation of consciousness from the body, but perhaps not post-mortem survival necessarily.

I wonder whether, assuming such a separation is possible, the experiences don't play back quite correctly when the person resumes consciousness. As an analogy; as if the NDE experience occurs in one 'format' say digital, but when the experiencer is conscious again, they are replaying it on an analogue device. I'm not using this as a literal example, but I hope you get my meaning.

Further thought: perhaps when the experience is replayed through the brain, it looks for analogous experiences. So if the person recalled 'flying on a butterfly', that's the closest the incarnate mind can get to an experience for which it has no frame of reference. Just a thought.

Absolutely obi, are we trying to understand with the finite apparatus that which is no longer finite?
Is it the consciousness that travels or just our perceptions? Like looking at something through water or through air?
