OK, if this section is for General Chat, let me broach a topic that has nothing to do with Spiritualism: do we have anyone here who shoots airguns?

The reason I ask is because I'm the Police (style of competitions) Manager of the Umarex Boys Club: a jocularly named, international (but mostly UK), internet, free, fun-oriented shooting club.

We have events for rifle, pistol, at 6 Yards, 10 Meters, indoor, outdoor, bench rest, soda can shoots, proficiency awards. . . no dues, travel, or entry fees.

Anyone interested? Smile

And yes, they know about my interest in spooks! Laughing One member's wife is a Spiritualist.

I've been allergic to guns since army days but just now and again when Mrs Rabbit and her greedy kids plus all their friends and relations have been tucking into my spring cabbages................
Don't think I could shoot 'em but would possibly throw it at them. He little divils come out at night round here. We're supposed to be having an increase in fox numbers here in England. Good thing too say I.

Your foxes are planying havoc with poultry, though.

On one of my forums, a member showed a photo of his "collection" of spent .410 shotshells. Every time he bagged a fox with one, he kept the shel on the mantle for a memento.

He said that his wife used to chew him out of shooting fox: till they started killing the chickens she was raising. Now she encourages him! Laughing

Maybe they ought to protect their chickens more effectively.

The .410 seems to work, Obi!

We used to have an air pistol and air rifle when we lived in the country near Dorking in Surrey, with an acre of land with an orchard at teh end of the gardens with fields opposite, on one side and behind. The pistol was only accurate to about 10 feet but my mother managed to shoot my brother with it. Fortunately not in a vulnerable spot. The more powerful air rifle with its telescopic site was a much more serious matter, as was the double barreled 12 bore.

Think the 12 bore was only fired twice once for rabbit stew, the other time by another brother, when he was alone in the house, over the head of an intruder who was trying to get into the house at night. he said he warned him first but the guy did not stop, however after one barrel was discharged the man ran away at some incredible speed. I think it was becasue my brother told him it was a double barrel shotgun.

I think if someone fired one round over my head, Jim, I wouldn't stick around to see if he had any / how many more! Laughing

That takes me back. I used to have a .177 slug gun (as we called them) many years ago and ugraded to a .22 slug gun with a scope later on. After I started working, I bought a .22 rifle from a workmate, then had to decide how to get it home. I had no car, so I tried to cover it up with a plastic bag or two and take it on the bus with me. No one seemed to care at first that I was sitting on the back seat of the bus, dressed in office clothes, with a gun next to me, trying to look inconspicuous. It must have been quite a sight! Someone did complain to the bus driver who had a word to me and all I could say was "it's not loaded".

That was in 1984, imagine trying to get on a bus with a rifle now...

I love that story Wes yes the one we had with a scope was a .22.

Back in 1982 when I was flying out of Khartoum Airport in Sudan on teh way back to London I had a tribemans traditional knife in my hand luggage and the guy in front 3 Assegais and a shield in teh overhead locker. The knife is an ornament in the house here. lol

I had a tiny ornamental nail file key fob about an inch long with A Souvenir from Blackpool enamelled on one side on a bunch of keys. It didn't even file nails very well and was oval not pointed. Just kept it for sentiment and it differentiated my keys from Mrs. Ks.
They took that off me at East Midands airport and I never saw it again.
Talk about overegging the pudding!
Three women in full black burquas on same flight with a dodgy looking bearded cove in shalwar kameez and a turban. All three sailed through check in.
And they wonder why less folk are taking holidays involving flying.
