Looking at different areas that mental mediums specialize in

There was a discussion at my church about mediums specializing in certain areas.
1. some specialize in giving messages from dear departed ones (Friends & Relatives)
2. some specialize in giving messages from people's band of guides
3. some specialize in giving messages from higher beings (White Eagle & Silver Birch)

My question is does the medium choose the speciality or does the speciality
choose the medium ?

Are there any areas I may have missed?

That does sound like the medium avoids or selects some preferred strands.
The first part of the service used to be where philosophical matters were aired, with evidential evidence given in the latter part.
In earlier days the first and only part was a philosophical discourse or a participating discussion for legal reasons, with evidential matter reserved for private circles. This was in UK.

I'd say it is because the medium chooses, wittingly or not, is what led to the position you describe.
If anyone does have 'specialist knowledge' why shouldn't it be used with consent?

What proof is there that these people are doing anything of the sort. In spirit communication ideally there should be evidence, but people who claim they talk to guides or higher beings. Where is the evidence? It sounds like an egotistical attitude if guides or higher beings it is mostly Trance where that happens not mental Mediumship. This is where new people to Spirtualism get the wrong idea about the phenomenon. Listen to your common sense and DO NOT FOLLOW PEOPLE. therein lies trouble. Follow your own feelings if you feel kit is wrong. do not act upon it.
